Nail Top Tips! - LiftingUpdated a month ago

Lifting happens when your dipping powder doesn't properly adhere to the nail. This issue usually stems from the prep stage of your application.

The nail plate should be fully free of debris and moisture to ensure proper adhesion.

Common Reasons your Mani is Lifting:

  1. Your cuticle is not removed properly

  2. Your nails aren’t buffed thoroughly during prep

  3. There’s too much moisture

  4. There’s residue or particles between your adhesion

  5. Very oily nail beds

  6. Did not dehydrate the nails enough.

The key to preventing lifting starts with proper nail preparation. Ensure that your nails are completely clean and dry. Here's a step-by-step guide for nail prep:

  • Cuticle Care: Push back and trim your cuticles carefully. This step is crucial for a neat application and also prevents lifting around the nail edges.

  • Dead Skin Removal: Gently remove any dead skin around the nail bed. This ensures the powder adheres directly to the nail and not to the skin, which can cause lifting. All white residue that's on the nail is dead skin and can be removed.

  • Buffing: Make sure your nails are fully buffed. This creates a slightly rough surface, allowing better adhesion of the dip powder. Make sure it's not only buffed in the middle of the nail but also to the sides as that's where most lifting appears.

  • Cleaning: After your cuticles are pushed back, the dead skin has been removed & you fully buffed your nails it's very important to make sure you nails are fully clean and oil-free. You can use a bit of alcohol or acetone (pads in the kit) or a specialised nail cleaner to wipe down each nail. This step removes any residual oils or dirt, providing a clean surface for the dip powder to adhere to.

Next, what is important:

  1. Apply Base Coat Correctly: When applying the base coat, go for a thin, even layer. A thick base coat can lead to lifting.

  2. Seal the Edges: After applying the dip powder, remember to seal the edges of your nails. This prevents water or moisture from seeping in, which is a common cause of lifting.

  3. Avoid Moisture: Keep your hands dry for a few hours after application. Water exposure soon after can weaken the bond of the dip powder to your nails.

Patience and attention to detail during preparation can make a significant difference in the longevity of your nails.

If the nail has lifted, we recommend removing the full nail and reapplying it again.
